**About Us**
The Food Files opened its doors to Western Australians in 2015 with the mission of sharing our passion for incredible food, blending the finest ingredients into quality, handmade meat products. Every product is crafted by our artisan butcher, Shane, who has been in the industry for nearly three decades, starting his butchering apprenticeship in 1991.
Shane's love for food is matched only by his dedication to his craft. Over the years, he has amassed a vast collection of cookbooks and fine art butchering books, fueling his never-ending pursuit of creating unique meat products. Growing up in the northern suburbs of Padbury, Shane left high school after Year 12 to begin his butchering journey. His first boss, Ian Jowett, guided his early steps, while his second boss, Steven Douglass, known as ‘Pommy,’ mentored him to become the number one apprentice. Shane was later introduced to the progressive Italian butchery trade, gaining profound knowledge in Italian meat processing, supermarket butchering, and the traditional South African art of making Boerewors, which has become a significant part of our sales. While the days of wooden chopping blocks and butchers paper are long gone, the traditional methods Shane learned continue to define our approach.
Stacy, our accounts, marketing, and operations manager, brings her own diverse background to the team. Raised in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia, Stacy is an agricultural lecturer and teacher by trade, with qualifications as a Teacher, Trainer, and Assessor, along with a Diploma in Agriculture, Horsebreeding, and Equestrian. Her expertise complements Shane’s butchery skills, making them the perfect team.
With our shared love for travel, great food, wine, and beer, and recognising the growth of the Chittering area’s proximity to Perth, we saw the opportunity to build something special. The impact of COVID-19 showed us the importance of producing quality local products and providing old-fashioned service with a streamlined, cost-effective operation. In late 2020, we built a unique home-based butcher shop on our property in Bindoon, combining our skills and resources to offer customers something truly exceptional.
